Ingredients

  • 4 cups All-purpose flour
  • 0.25 cup Granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 cup Unsalted butter (room temperature)
  • 1.25 cups Whole milk
  • 2.25 teaspoons Active dry yeast
  • 2 pieces Large eggs
  • 0.25 cup Additional unsalted butter (melted, for brushing)

Directions

Step 1

In a medium saucepan, heat the milk over low heat until it is warm but not hot to the touch (about 100°F or 38°C). Remove from heat and stir in the granulated sugar and active dry yeast. Let the mixture sit for 5-10 minutes, or until it becomes frothy.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Add the room temperature butter, using your fingers or a pastry cutter to incorporate it into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Step 3

Beat the eggs in a small bowl, then add them to the yeast mixture once it is frothy. Stir the wet mixture until fully combined.

Step 4

Make a well in the center of the flour mixture and pour in the wet ingredients. Using a wooden spoon or dough hook attachment of a stand mixer, mix until a soft dough forms. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for 6-8 minutes (or 4-5 minutes with a stand mixer) until it becomes smooth and elastic.

Step 5

Transfer the dough to a lightly greased bowl, cover with plastic wrap or a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm, draft-free area for about 1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.

Step 6

After the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into two equal portions. Roll each portion into a circle about 12 inches in diameter on a lightly floured surface.

Step 7

Using a pizza cutter or sharp knife, slice each circle into 8 equal triangular wedges (like a pizza). Starting at the wide end of each wedge, roll the dough up tightly toward the pointed end to form a crescent shape.

Step 8

Place the rolled crescents on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or a silicone mat, making sure the pointed ends are tucked underneath to prevent unrolling during baking. Cover loosely with a towel and let rise for another 30 minutes.

Step 9

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) during the second rise.

Step 10

Bake the rolls in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until they are golden brown. Remove from the oven and immediately brush with the melted butter.

Step 11

Allow the rolls to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm or at room temperature!
