Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 0.5 pound Italian sausage
  • 1 medium yellow onion, finely diced
  • 3 cloves garlic cloves, minced
  • 28 ounces crushed tomatoes
  • 6 ounces tomato paste
  • 15 ounces tomato sauce
  • 2 teaspoons dried basil
  • 1.5 teaspoons dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1.5 teaspoons salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 15 ounces ricotta cheese
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
  • 12 pieces lasagna noodles
  • 4 cups mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 0.5 cup Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Step 2

In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the ground beef, Italian sausage, and diced onion. Cook until the meat is browned and the onion is soft, about 7-8 minutes. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 1 more minute.

Step 3

Add the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, tomato sauce, dried basil, dried oregano, sugar, salt, and black pepper to the meat mixture. Stir well and reduce the heat to low. Simmer for 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld, stirring occasionally.

Step 4

While the sauce simmers, bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook the lasagna noodles according to the package instructions. Drain and set them aside on a clean surface.

Step 5

In a medium bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, egg, and chopped fresh parsley. Mix until well combined.

Step 6

Spread about 1 cup of the meat sauce across the bottom of a 9x13-inch baking dish. Layer 3-4 lasagna noodles over the sauce, slightly overlapping them.

Step 7

Spread 1/3 of the ricotta mixture over the noodles. Sprinkle about 1 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese on top. Spread 1 cup of meat sauce over the cheese. Repeat this layering process two more times, ending with a final layer of meat sauce on top.

Step 8

Sprinkle the remaining mozzarella cheese and the grated Parmesan cheese evenly over the lasagna.

Step 9

Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil, ensuring the foil does not touch the cheese. Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.

Step 10

Remove the foil and bake for an additional 25 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.

Step 11

Let the lasagna rest for 10-15 minutes before slicing and serving. Enjoy your masterpiece!
