Ingredients

  • 4 whole Bosc pears
  • 4 cups Water
  • 0.5 cup Honey
  • 1 strip Lemon peel
  • 1 whole Cinnamon stick
  • 1 whole Star anise
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 1 bunch Mint leaves
  • 1 tablespoon Lemon juice

Directions

Step 1

Peel the pears, leaving the stems intact. Core the pears from the bottom using a melon baller or small spoon.

Step 2

In a medium saucepan, combine water, honey, lemon peel, cinnamon stick, and star anise.

Step 3

Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat, stirring gently until the honey dissolves.

Step 4

Reduce the heat to low and add the pears to the saucepan. Ensure they are fully submerged in the liquid. If necessary, add a little more water.

Step 5

Poach the pears for 20-25 minutes, turning occasionally, until tender when pierced with a knife.

Step 6

Remove the pears from the saucepan and set them aside on a plate to cool slightly.

Step 7

Increase the heat to medium-high and simmer the poaching liquid until it reduces by half and becomes syrupy, about 5-10 minutes.

Step 8

Remove the cinnamon stick, star anise, and lemon peel from the syrup. Stir the vanilla extract and lemon juice into the syrup.

Step 9

To serve, place each pear on a dessert plate and drizzle with the poaching syrup.

Step 10

Garnish with fresh mint leaves and serve warm or at room temperature.
