Ingredients

  • 500 grams Lean ground beef
  • 1 medium, finely chopped Onion
  • 3 cloves, minced Garlic
  • 2 teaspoons Ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon Ground coriander
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Dried oregano
  • 0.25 teaspoon Ground cinnamon
  • 4 pieces Whole grain pita
  • 2 medium, sliced Tomato
  • 1 medium, sliced Cucumber
  • 0.5 thinly sliced Red onion
  • 1 cup Tzatziki sauce
  • 1 handful, chopped Fresh parsley
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, chopped onion, minced garlic, cumin, coriander, salt, black pepper, oregano, and cinnamon. Mix thoroughly until all spices are evenly distributed throughout the meat.

Step 2

Preheat the oven to 190°C (375°F).

Step 3

Shape the beef mixture into a loaf on a baking sheet or use a loaf pan for a more formed shape. Drizzle olive oil over the top of the loaf.

Step 4

Bake the loaf in the preheated oven for about 25-30 minutes or until the internal temperature reaches 75°C (165°F) and the outside is browned.

Step 5

While the meat is cooking, prepare the toppings. Slice the tomatoes, cucumber, and red onion. Chop the parsley and set everything aside.

Step 6

Once the beef is cooked, let it rest for about 5 minutes before slicing thinly.

Step 7

Warm the whole grain pita bread either in a dry pan over medium heat for about 1 minute each side or wrapped in foil in the oven for 5 minutes.

Step 8

To assemble the donair, place a warm pita on a plate. Layer a few slices of beef onto the pita.

Step 9

Add sliced tomatoes, cucumbers, and red onions on top of the beef.

Step 10

Drizzle a generous amount of tzatziki sauce over the top and sprinkle with fresh parsley.

Step 11

Fold the pita around the filling, securing with parchment paper or foil if needed, and serve immediately.
