Ingredients

  • 2 pounds Ground beef (85% lean)
  • 1 large Yellow onion, finely chopped
  • 2 pieces Garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 cup Breadcrumbs
  • 0.5 cup Milk
  • 1 large Egg
  • 0.25 cup Ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1.5 teaspoons Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoons Black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon Brown sugar
  • 0.5 cup Additional ketchup for topping

Directions

Step 1

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet or loaf pan with parchment paper or lightly grease it.

Step 2

In a skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add the finely chopped onion and sauté until softened and golden, about 5-7 minutes. Add the minced garlic in the last minute of cooking. Set aside to cool slightly.

Step 3

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, salt, black pepper, and the sautéed onion and garlic mixture. Mix gently with your hands until just combined, being careful not to overmix.

Step 4

Transfer the meat mixture to the prepared baking sheet or loaf pan. Shape it into a loaf shape if using a baking sheet.

Step 5

In a small bowl, mix 0.5 cup of ketchup with 1 tablespoon of brown sugar. Spread this mixture evenly over the top of the meatloaf.

Step 6

Bake in the preheated oven for 55-60 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (70°C).

Step 7

Let the meatloaf rest for 10 minutes before slicing. Serve alongside sautéed vegetables or mashed potatoes for a complete meal.
