Ingredients

  • 500 grams Ground beef
  • 60 grams Breadcrumbs
  • 60 milliliters Milk
  • 1 large Egg
  • 1 small, finely chopped Onion
  • 2 cloves, minced Garlic
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 3 tablespoons Butter
  • 250 grams, sliced Mushrooms
  • 2 tablespoons All-purpose flour
  • 500 milliliters Beef broth
  • 120 milliliters Heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons, finely chopped (optional) Fresh parsley

Directions

Step 1

In a small bowl, combine breadcrumbs and milk. Let soak for 5 minutes until softened.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, soaked breadcrumbs, egg, onion, garlic, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined but do not overmix to avoid tough meatballs.

Step 3

Form the mixture into small meatballs, about 1-inch in diameter, and set aside on a plate.

Step 4

Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the meatballs in batches and cook until browned on all sides, about 6-8 minutes total. Remove meatballs from the skillet and set aside.

Step 5

In the same skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add the sliced mushrooms and cook until softened and browned, about 5 minutes.

Step 6

Sprinkle flour over the mushrooms and stir to coat evenly. Cook for 1-2 minutes to remove the raw flour taste.

Step 7

Gradually whisk in the beef broth, making sure to scrape up any browned bits from the bottom of the skillet. Cook until the gravy begins to thicken, about 5-7 minutes.

Step 8

Stir in the heavy cream and bring to a gentle simmer. Adjust seasoning with additional salt and pepper if needed.

Step 9

Return the meatballs to the skillet, spoon the mushroom gravy over them, and simmer for 10 minutes until the meatballs are cooked through.

Step 10

Garnish with fresh parsley if desired, and serve hot with mashed potatoes, pasta, or rice.
