Ingredients

  • 1 pound Ground beef
  • 1 pound Ground pork
  • 4 pieces Italian sausage links
  • 1 cup Breadcrumbs
  • 0.5 cup Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 2 large Eggs
  • 4 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 0.25 cup Fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 1 medium Yellow onion, finely diced
  • 1 cup Chianti wine
  • 28 ounces Crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons Tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon Dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon Dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon Sugar
  • 0.5 cup Water

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, eggs, 2 cloves of minced garlic, fresh parsley, salt, and black pepper. Mix well to combine.

Step 2

Using your hands, form the mixture into meatballs about 1.5 inches in diameter. Set aside on a plate.

Step 3

Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the sausage links and sear until browned on all sides, about 6-8 minutes. Remove and set aside.

Step 4

In the same skillet, add the remaining olive oil. Brown the meatballs in batches until golden on all sides, about 8-10 minutes total. Remove the meatballs and set aside.

Step 5

Lower the heat to medium and add the diced onion to the skillet. Cook until softened, about 4-5 minutes.

Step 6

Add the remaining 2 cloves of minced garlic to the skillet and sauté for 1 minute until fragrant.

Step 7

Pour the Chianti wine into the skillet and scrape the bottom of the pan to deglaze. Allow the wine to simmer for 3-4 minutes, reducing slightly.

Step 8

Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, basil, sugar, and water. Mix well and bring to a gentle simmer.

Step 9

Return the meatballs and sausage to the skillet, nestling them into the sauce. Cover and simmer on low heat for 30-40 minutes, stirring occasionally to ensure even cooking.

Step 10

Taste the sauce and adjust seasoning with additional salt and pepper, if needed.

Step 11

Serve hot over your choice of pasta, polenta, or alongside crusty bread to soak up the Chianti sauce.
