Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon Matcha green tea powder
  • 2 tablespoons Hot water
  • 1 cup Milk (dairy or non-dairy)
  • 1 teaspoon Honey or sweetener of choice
  • 0.5 teaspoon Vanilla extract (optional)

Directions

Step 1

Start by sifting 1 teaspoon of matcha green tea powder into a small bowl to remove any lumps for smoother blending.

Step 2

Pour 2 tablespoons of hot water (not boiling) over the sifted matcha powder. Use water at about 175°F or 80°C for best results.

Step 3

Use a bamboo whisk or a small regular whisk to vigorously whisk the matcha and water together until the mixture is smooth and frothy, ensuring there are no clumps of powder remaining.

Step 4

In a small saucepan or using a microwave, heat 1 cup of milk until warm. Do not let it boil.

Step 5

If desired, add 1 teaspoon of honey or your preferred sweetener to the warm milk and stir until it’s dissolved. Also, add 0.5 teaspoon of vanilla extract for extra flavor, if using.

Step 6

Once the milk is warm and sweetened, pour the milk into the bowl of matcha mixture, continuously whisking to combine them thoroughly and create a light froth.

Step 7

Serve immediately in a heatproof mug. Enjoy your homemade matcha latte hot, with an optional sprinkle of matcha powder on top for garnish.
