Ingredients

  • 480 grams All-purpose flour
  • 300 milliliters Warm water (around 110°F / 43°C)
  • 7 grams Active dry yeast
  • 10 grams Granulated sugar
  • 9 grams Salt
  • 30 milliliters Olive oil (or any neutral oil)

Directions

Step 1

In a small bowl or measuring cup, combine the warm water, granulated sugar, and active dry yeast. Stir gently and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy and bubbles form. This activates the yeast.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour and salt. Create a well in the center.

Step 3

Pour the yeast mixture and olive oil into the well in the flour. Using a wooden spoon or your hands, mix the ingredients until a shaggy dough forms.

Step 4

Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface. Knead the dough for about 8-10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. If the dough is too sticky, add a small amount of flour, one tablespoon at a time.

Step 5

Lightly grease a large bowl with a small amount of olive oil. Place the dough into the bowl and turn it to coat with oil. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or a clean kitchen towel.

Step 6

Let the dough rise in a warm, draft-free spot for 1-1.5 hours, or until it doubles in size.

Step 7

Once risen, punch down the dough to release air. Shape it as desired—loaves, rolls, or for other uses.

Step 8

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) if baking loaves or rolls. For pizza or flatbreads, preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C).

Step 9

Bake the shaped dough according to its use: about 25-30 minutes for loaves, 15-20 minutes for rolls, or 10-12 minutes for flatbreads or pizza crusts.

Step 10

Remove the bread from the oven once it is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom. Let cool on a wire rack before slicing or serving.
