Ingredients

  • 4 pieces ripe plantains
  • 2 tablespoons salted butter
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 cloves minced garlic

Directions

Step 1

Begin by peeling the ripe plantains. Cut each plantain into approximately 2-inch slices.

Step 2

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the plantain slices and boil for about 15 to 20 minutes, or until they are tender when pierced with a fork.

Step 3

While the plantains are boiling, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a small skillet over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for 1 to 2 minutes until fragrant and golden. Be careful not to burn the garlic.

Step 4

Once the plantains are tender, remove them from the pot and drain thoroughly. Place the plantains in a large mixing bowl.

Step 5

Add the salted butter, milk, sautéed garlic, salt, and black pepper to the plantains.

Step 6

Mash the plantains using a potato masher or an electric hand mixer until the mixture is creamy and well combined. Adjust the seasoning with additional salt and pepper to taste if necessary.

Step 7

Serve the mashed plantains warm as a side dish or enjoy them on their own.
