Ingredients

  • 4 large sweet potatoes
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 0.5 cup brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
  • 0.25 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup pecans
  • 0.5 cup all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 cup brown sugar (for topping)
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter (for topping)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Step 2

Peel the sweet potatoes and cut them into 1-inch cubes.

Step 3

Place the sweet potato cubes in a large pot of water and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat and let them simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until fork-tender.

Step 4

Drain the sweet potatoes and transfer them to a large mixing bowl.

Step 5

Add 4 tablespoons of unsalted butter, 0.5 cup of brown sugar, maple syrup, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, salt, and heavy cream to the sweet potatoes.

Step 6

Mash the sweet potatoes with a potato masher or hand mixer until smooth and well combined.

Step 7

Spread the mashed sweet potatoes into a greased 9x13-inch baking dish and set aside.

Step 8

In a separate bowl, make the pecan streusel topping by mixing the pecans, flour, 0.5 cup of brown sugar, and 4 tablespoons of cold unsalted butter. Use a fork or pastry cutter to combine the mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.

Step 9

Sprinkle the pecan streusel topping evenly over the mashed sweet potatoes.

Step 10

Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and crunchy.

Step 11

Remove from the oven and let cool for 5 minutes before serving.
