Ingredients

  • 500 grams All-purpose flour
  • 250 grams Unsalted butter
  • 120 milliliters Cold water
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 300 grams Beef, finely diced or ground
  • 300 grams Potatoes, peeled and diced
  • 150 grams Carrots, peeled and diced
  • 1 medium Onion, finely diced
  • 1 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 1 large Egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and salt.

Step 2

Add the cold, diced unsalted butter to the flour mixture. Using your fingers or a pastry cutter, rub the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Step 3

Gradually add the cold water, mixing with your hands until the dough comes together. Be careful not to overwork the dough. Wrap it in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.

Step 4

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Step 5

In a bowl, combine the diced beef, potatoes, carrots, onion, salt, and black pepper. Mix well to evenly distribute the seasoning.

Step 6

Divide the chilled dough into 6 equal portions. Roll each portion into a circle approximately 8 inches (20 cm) in diameter on a lightly floured surface.

Step 7

Place a generous scoop of the filling mixture onto one side of each dough circle, leaving a border around the edges.

Step 8

Fold the dough over the filling to form a half-moon shape. Pinch the edges together and crimp them with your fingers or a fork to seal securely.

Step 9

Place the pasties onto the prepared baking sheet. Brush the tops with the beaten egg to create a golden finish.

Step 10

Use a sharp knife to make a small slit in the top of each pasty to allow steam to escape during baking.

Step 11

Bake in the preheated oven for 55-60 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is cooked through.

Step 12

Allow the pasties to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy them warm as a hearty meal!
