Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground chicken or pork
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 cloves garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tablespoon ginger, finely chopped
  • 3 green onions, finely sliced
  • 0.5 cup water chestnuts, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 0.5 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 12 lettuce leaves (butter lettuce or iceberg)
  • 0.25 cup chopped peanuts or cashews (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons chopped cilantro (optional)

Directions

Step 1

Wash and carefully separate the lettuce leaves. Pat them dry with a clean kitchen towel and set aside on a platter.

Step 2

Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.

Add the minced garlic and ginger to the hot oil and stir-fry for 30 seconds until aromatic.

Add the ground chicken or pork to the skillet. Cook, breaking it into small pieces with a spatula, until the meat is fully browned, about 5-6 minutes.
