Ingredients

  • 500 grams Button mushrooms (sliced)
  • 3 tablespoons Unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons All-purpose flour
  • 1.5 cups Milk
  • 0.5 cups Heavy cream
  • 0.5 cups Parmesan cheese (grated)
  • 0.5 cups Gruyère cheese (shredded)
  • 2 cloves Garlic (minced)
  • 0.5 teaspoons Salt
  • 0.25 teaspoons Black pepper
  • 0.5 cups Breadcrumbs (preferably panko)
  • 1 tablespoon Olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh parsley (chopped, for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a medium-sized baking dish and set aside.

Step 2

In a large skillet over medium heat, melt 2 tablespoons of butter. Add the minced garlic and sauté for 30 seconds until fragrant.

Step 3

Add the sliced mushrooms to the skillet and cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the mushrooms release their liquid and it evaporates. Season with a pinch of salt and pepper. Remove the mushrooms from the skillet and set aside.

Step 4

In the same skillet, reduce the heat to low and melt the remaining 1 tablespoon of butter. Whisk in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes to form a roux.

Step 5

Gradually whisk in the milk and heavy cream, ensuring there are no lumps. Cook the mixture over medium heat, stirring constantly, until it thickens, about 3-5 minutes.

Step 6

Once the sauce has thickened, stir in the Parmesan cheese and Gruyère cheese until fully melted. Add the cooked mushrooms back into the skillet and stir to combine. Season the mixture with the remaining salt and pepper.

Step 7

Pour the mushroom mixture into the prepared baking dish, spreading it evenly.

Step 8

In a small bowl, combine the breadcrumbs and olive oil. Sprinkle the breadcrumb mixture evenly over the mushrooms.

Step 9

Bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly.

Step 10

Remove from the oven and let cool for 5 minutes. Garnish with chopped parsley before serving.
