Ingredients

  • 2.25 cups All-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons Baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon Ground nutmeg
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.75 cup Unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup Granulated sugar
  • 0.5 cup Brown sugar, packed
  • 1 unit Large egg
  • 0.5 cup Eggnog
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 1 cup Powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Eggnog (for glaze)
  • 0.25 teaspoons Ground nutmeg (for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mats.

Step 2

In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, ground nutmeg, and salt. Set aside.

Step 3

In a large mixing bowl, use a hand or stand mixer to cream the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.

Step 4

Add the egg to the butter and sugar mixture, and beat until incorporated.

Step 5

Mix in the eggnog and vanilla extract. The mixture might look slightly curdled; this is normal.

Step 6

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed until just combined. Do not overmix.

Step 7

Using a tablespoon or cookie scoop, drop rounded spoonfuls of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.

Step 8

Bake the cookies in the preheated oven for 8-10 minutes or until the edges are just starting to turn golden. Be careful not to overbake; the cookies should remain soft.

Step 9

Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Step 10

To make the glaze, whisk together the powdered sugar and 2 tablespoons of eggnog until smooth. The glaze should be thick but pourable; adjust with a teaspoon of additional eggnog if needed.

Step 11

Drizzle the glaze over the cooled cookies using a spoon or piping bag.

Step 12

Sprinkle the tops of the cookies with a light dusting of ground nutmeg for garnish.

Step 13

Allow the glaze to set for 15-20 minutes before serving. Store the cookies in an airtight container for up to 5 days.
