Ingredients

  • 4 cups canned navy beans
  • 6 slices thick-cut bacon
  • 1 medium, finely diced yellow onion
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 0.5 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons molasses
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 0.5 cup water

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Step 2

Rinse the canned navy beans under cold water and allow them to drain fully.

Step 3

Cut the thick-cut bacon into small bite-sized pieces. Add the bacon to a large skillet and cook over medium heat until crispy, about 7-8 minutes. Remove the cooked bacon and set it aside on a paper towel-lined plate.

Step 4

In the same skillet, add the diced yellow onion to the bacon drippings. Sauté for 5-6 minutes, or until the onions are softened and slightly caramelized.

Step 5

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ketchup, brown sugar, molasses, Dijon mustard, apple cider vinegar, smoked paprika, garlic powder, ground black pepper, and water. Stir until the mixture is smooth and well-combined.

Step 6

Add the cooked onions, crispy bacon, and drained navy beans to the mixing bowl with the sauce. Gently stir to coat the beans evenly.

Step 7

Transfer the mixture to a greased 9x13-inch baking dish, spreading it out evenly.

Step 8

Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 60 minutes.

Step 9

After 60 minutes, remove the aluminum foil and bake uncovered for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the sauce is thickened and bubbling.

Step 10

Remove the baked beans from the oven and let them cool for 5 minutes before serving. Serve warm and enjoy!
