Ingredients

  • 1 cup Warm water
  • 2 tablespoons Granulated sugar
  • 1 package Active dry yeast
  • 1 cup Whole milk
  • 4 tablespoons Unsalted butter
  • 4 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 large Egg
  • 2 tablespoons Butter (for brushing)

Directions

Step 1

In a small bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Stir gently and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until the mixture becomes frothy.

Step 2

While the yeast is activating, heat the milk and butter in a small saucepan over low heat until the butter has just melted. Remove from heat and let it cool to lukewarm.

Step 3

In a large mixing bowl, combine 3 cups of flour and the salt. Stir to combine.

Step 4

Add the frothy yeast mixture, the lukewarm milk mixture, and the egg to the dry ingredients. Mix until everything is incorporated.

Step 5

Gradually add the remaining cup of flour, 1/4 cup at a time, until a soft dough forms. The dough should be slightly sticky but manageable.

Step 6

Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead it for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

Step 7

Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until it has doubled in size.

Step 8

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a smooth ball and place them in a greased 9x13-inch baking dish.

Step 9

Cover the rolls with the kitchen towel again and let them rise for another 30 minutes until they have doubled in size.

Step 10

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) during the second rise.

Step 11

Bake the rolls in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown.

Step 12

Immediately after removing the rolls from the oven, brush the tops with the 2 tablespoons of melted butter for a glossy finish and extra flavor.

Step 13

Serve warm and enjoy!
