Ingredients

  • 1 bunch Swiss chard
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 3 large Garlic cloves
  • 0.5 teaspoons Red pepper flakes
  • 0.5 teaspoons Salt
  • 0.25 teaspoons Black pepper
  • 0.25 cups Grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoons Lemon juice

Directions

Step 1

Thoroughly rinse the Swiss chard under cold running water to remove any dirt or grit. Pat the leaves and stems dry with a clean kitchen towel.

Step 2

Separate the leaves from the stems, as the stems take longer to cook. Dice the stems into small pieces and roughly chop the leaves into bite-sized pieces.

Step 3

Peel and finely mince the garlic cloves.

Step 4

Heat the olive oil in a large sauté pan over medium heat until shimmering.

Step 5

Add the minced garlic and red pepper flakes to the pan. Sauté for 1-2 minutes, stirring frequently, until the garlic is fragrant but not browned.

Step 6

Stir in the diced Swiss chard stems. Cook for 3-4 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the stems begin to soften.

Step 7

Add the chopped Swiss chard leaves to the pan in batches, stirring after each addition to allow them to wilt down. This should take about 5 minutes in total.

Step 8

Season the chard with salt and black pepper. Stir well and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes to meld the flavors.

Step 9

Remove the pan from heat, then drizzle the lemon juice over the cooked chard. Toss to combine.

Step 10

Transfer the Swiss chard to a serving platter and sprinkle the grated Parmesan cheese evenly over the top before serving.
