Ingredients

  • 4 medium, peeled, cored, and diced Bosc pears
  • 1 small, finely chopped Yellow onion
  • 1 tablespoon, grated Fresh ginger
  • 0.5 cup Orange juice
  • 0.5 cup Apple cider vinegar
  • 0.5 cup Brown sugar
  • 0.25 cup Golden raisins
  • 1 whole Cinnamon stick
  • 0.25 teaspoon Ground cloves
  • 0.25 teaspoon Ground allspice
  • 0.25 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon, freshly ground Black pepper

Directions

Step 1

1. Prepare the ingredients by peeling, coring, and dicing the pears and finely chopping the onion.

Step 2

2. In a medium saucepan, combine the orange juice, apple cider vinegar, and brown sugar. Heat over medium heat and stir until the sugar dissolves.

Step 3

3. Add the diced pears, chopped onion, grated ginger, golden raisins, cinnamon stick, ground cloves, ground allspice, salt, and black pepper to the saucepan.

Step 4

4. Stir the mixture well to combine all the ingredients evenly.

Step 5

5. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil, then reduce the heat to low and let it simmer uncovered for 30–35 minutes. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking and ensure even cooking.

Step 6

6. Cook until the pears are tender and the chutney has thickened to a jam-like consistency. Remove the cinnamon stick before serving.

Step 7

7. Allow the chutney to cool slightly before transferring to an airtight container. Store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.

Step 8

8. Serve as a condiment with roast chicken, pork, sandwiches, or a cheese board.
