Ingredients

  • 6 slices sliced bread (thick-cut or brioche preferred)
  • 6 large eggs
  • 1.5 cups milk (whole or 2%)
  • 0.5 cup maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons butter (melted)
  • 0.5 cup chopped pecans (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar (for garnish, optional)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray or butter.

Step 2

Cut the bread slices into 1-inch cubes and arrange them evenly in the prepared baking dish.

Step 3

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, maple syrup, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and salt until fully combined.

Step 4

Pour the egg mixture evenly over the bread cubes, making sure all the bread is soaked. Lightly press down on the bread with a spatula to help it absorb the liquid.

Step 5

Drizzle the melted butter over the top and sprinkle the chopped pecans (if using) evenly across the casserole.

Step 6

Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes.

Step 7

Remove the foil and bake for another 10-15 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Step 8

Let the bake cool for 5 minutes before garnishing with powdered sugar, if desired. Serve warm with additional maple syrup on the side.
