Ingredients

  • 2.5 cups All-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons Baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoons Salt
  • 0.5 cups Unsalted butter, softened
  • 0.75 cups Granulated sugar
  • 0.25 cups Dark brown sugar, packed
  • 1 cups Pure maple syrup
  • 2 pieces Eggs, large
  • 2 teaspoons Pure vanilla extract
  • 0.75 cups Whole milk
  • 0.5 cups Cream cheese, softened
  • 0.25 cups Unsalted butter, softened (for frosting)
  • 2 cups Confectioners’ sugar, sifted
  • 0.25 cups Pure maple syrup (for frosting)
  • 1 teaspoon Pure vanilla extract (for frosting)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

Step 2

In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.

Step 3

In a large bowl, use an electric mixer to beat the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.

Step 4

Slowly add the maple syrup to the butter mixture while continuing to mix. Then, beat in the eggs one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract.

Step 5

Reduce the mixer speed to low and alternately add the flour mixture and milk to the wet ingredients, starting and ending with the flour mixture. Mix until just combined. Do not overmix.

Step 6

Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans and smooth the tops with a spatula.

Step 7

Bake the cakes in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Step 8

Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then turn them out onto wire racks to cool completely.

Step 9

To make the frosting, beat the softened cream cheese and butter together until smooth and creamy.

Step 10

Gradually add the confectioners’ sugar, mixing on low speed until incorporated.

Step 11

Add the maple syrup and vanilla extract and mix until the frosting is smooth and fluffy.

Step 12

Once the cakes have completely cooled, place one layer on a serving plate and spread a generous amount of frosting on top.

Step 13

Place the second cake layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake as desired.

Step 14

Serve immediately or store in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Bring to room temperature before serving for the best flavor.
