Ingredients

  • 6 Fresh lemons
  • 1 cup Granulated sugar
  • 1 cup Water, for simple syrup
  • 4 cups Cold water, for lemonade
  • 2 cups Ice cubes
  • 4 slices Lemon slices (optional, for garnish)
  • 4 leaves Fresh mint leaves (optional, for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Start by making the simple syrup. Combine 1 cup of granulated sugar and 1 cup of water in a small saucepan.

Step 2

Heat over medium heat, stirring frequently, until the sugar has completely dissolved. This should take about 3-5 minutes. Remove from heat and let the syrup cool to room temperature.

Step 3

While the syrup cools, juice the lemons. Cut the lemons in half and squeeze them using a citrus juicer or by hand. You should get approximately 1 cup of freshly squeezed lemon juice. Strain the juice to remove seeds and pulp, if desired.

Step 4

In a large pitcher, combine the cooled simple syrup and fresh lemon juice.

Step 5

Add 4 cups of cold water to the pitcher and stir well to combine. Taste the lemonade and adjust its sweetness or tartness by adding more sugar, water, or lemon juice as needed.

Step 6

Add 2 cups of ice cubes to the pitcher to chill the lemonade instantly.

Step 7

Serve the lemonade in glass tumblers filled with ice. Garnish each glass with a lemon slice and a sprig of fresh mint, if desired.

Step 8

Enjoy your homemade Madeline's Lemonade!
