Ingredients

  • 350 grams macaroni pasta
  • 80 grams unsalted butter
  • 40 grams all-purpose flour
  • 500 milliliters whole milk
  • 240 milliliters heavy cream
  • 200 grams sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 150 grams mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 50 grams Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 0.5 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 cups cooked garlic bread, cubed
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tablespoons parsley, chopped (optional)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a large baking dish.

Step 2

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil, add the macaroni pasta, and cook until al dente according to the package instructions. Drain and set aside.

Step 3

In a medium saucepan, melt 60 grams of butter over medium heat. Add the flour and whisk continuously for about 2 minutes to create a roux.

Step 4

Gradually pour in the milk and heavy cream while whisking to ensure no lumps form. Cook for 4-5 minutes until the mixture thickens slightly.

Step 5

Stir in the cheddar, mozzarella, and Parmesan cheeses, saving a small portion of each for topping. Add salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Stir until the cheese is fully melted and the sauce is smooth.

Step 6

Combine the cooked macaroni with the cheese sauce in a large mixing bowl, then transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish.

Step 7

In a skillet over medium heat, warm the olive oil and remaining 20 grams of butter. Add the minced garlic and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.

Step 8

Toss the garlic bread cubes in the skillet with the garlic mixture until they’re evenly coated. Toast lightly for 2-3 minutes.

Step 9

Spread the garlic bread cubes evenly over the top of the macaroni and cheese. Sprinkle the reserved cheese on top.

Step 10

Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly.

Step 11

Remove from the oven, sprinkle with chopped parsley if desired, and let cool for 5 minutes before serving.
