Ingredients

  • 6 medium Russet potatoes
  • 4 tablespoons Unsalted butter
  • 3 tablespoons All-purpose flour
  • 2 cups Whole milk
  • 1 cup Heavy cream
  • 2 cups Shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup Freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Ground black pepper
  • 0.5 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 0.125 teaspoon Ground nutmeg
  • 1 cup Bread crumbs
  • 2 tablespoons Chopped fresh parsley

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.

Step 2

Peel the potatoes and cut them into 1-inch cubes. Place them in a large pot of salted water and bring to a boil. Cook for 10-12 minutes, or until the potatoes are fork-tender. Drain and set aside.

Step 3

In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Whisk in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly, to form a roux.

Step 4

Gradually whisk in the milk and heavy cream, continuing to stir to avoid lumps. Cook the mixture for 3-4 minutes, or until it thickens.

Step 5

Lower the heat and stir in the shredded cheddar cheese and Parmesan cheese until fully melted and smooth.

Step 6

Add the salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and nutmeg to the cheese sauce. Mix well.

Step 7

Place the cooked potatoes into the prepared baking dish and pour the cheese sauce over the top, ensuring all potatoes are evenly coated.

Step 8

In a small bowl, mix bread crumbs with 1 tablespoon of melted butter and sprinkle the mixture evenly over the potatoes.

Step 9

Bake the dish in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and crisp.

Step 10

Remove from the oven and let cool for 5 minutes. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley before serving.
