Ingredients

  • 0.75 cup all-purpose flour
  • 0.75 cup whole milk
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar (for garnish)
  • 1 cup fresh fruit or jam (optional, for topping)
  • 4 lemon wedges (optional, for serving)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and place a 10-inch cast iron skillet or oven-safe pan in the oven to heat.

Step 2

In a blender, combine the flour, milk, eggs, sugar, vanilla extract, and salt. Blend on high for 30 seconds until the batter is smooth and frothy. Let the batter rest for 5 minutes.

Step 3

Carefully remove the hot skillet from the oven and add the butter. Swirl the pan so the butter completely coats the bottom and sides.

Step 4

Quickly pour the batter into the hot skillet and return it to the oven. Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until the Dutch baby is puffed and golden brown around the edges.

Step 5

Remove the skillet from the oven and let the Dutch baby cool slightly (it will deflate while cooling).

Step 6

Transfer to a serving plate or slice directly from the skillet. Sprinkle with powdered sugar, and top with fresh fruit, jam, or squeeze lemon juice over the top as desired. Serve warm.
