Ingredients

  • 20 leaves Taro leaves
  • 1 can (12 oz) Corned beef
  • 2 cups Coconut milk
  • 1 medium, diced Onion
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 large roll (for wrapping) Aluminum foil

Directions

Step 1

Wash the taro leaves thoroughly under cold water to remove any dirt. Pat them dry with a clean towel.

Step 2

Lay out a work surface and place 3-4 taro leaves on top of each other to create a single stack.

Step 3

Open the can of corned beef and use a spoon to scoop about 2 tablespoons of corned beef onto the center of the stacked taro leaves. Adjust the quantity based on personal preference.

Step 4

Top the corned beef with a small amount of diced onion.

Step 5

Pour about 1/4 cup of coconut milk over the corned beef and onion, then sprinkle a pinch of salt on top.

Step 6

Wrap the taro leaves around the filling to form a neat bundle, ensuring it is tightly sealed to keep the mixture intact during cooking.

Step 7

Tear a square sheet of aluminum foil and place the taro leaf bundle in the center. Wrap the foil around the bundle to create a sealed package. Repeat these steps with the remaining ingredients until all are used up.

Step 8

Place the foil-wrapped bundles into a large pot with a steamer basket or rack. Add water to the pot, making sure it does not touch the bundles, and cover the pot with a lid.

Step 9

Steam the Lu Pulu over medium heat for 90 minutes, checking occasionally to make sure the water level remains sufficient. Add more hot water if needed.

Step 10

Carefully remove the bundles from the pot using tongs and let them cool for a few minutes. Unwrap the foil and serve the Lu Pulu hot with rice or root vegetables like taro or sweet potato.
