Ingredients

  • 1 lb 85% lean ground beef
  • 2 tbsp Unsalted butter
  • 0.5 cup White onion, finely chopped
  • 0.25 cup Low sodium beef broth
  • 6 slices Swiss cheese or low sodium American cheese slices
  • 6 buns Slider-sized whole wheat buns
  • 0.5 tsp Black pepper
  • 0.5 tsp Garlic powder
  • 0.5 tsp Onion powder

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C).

Step 2

In a large skillet, melt 1 tablespoon of unsalted butter over medium heat. Add the finely chopped onion and sauté until softened, about 3-5 minutes. Remove and set aside.

Step 3

In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef with black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix until well incorporated but avoid overmixing to keep the patties tender.

Step 4

On a parchment-lined baking sheet, press the beef mixture into a thin, even rectangle, approximately 1/4 inch thick. Use the back of a spatula to create small rectangle indentations to simulate separated patties, ensuring each patty will match the size of the slider buns.

Step 5

Bake the beef mixture in the preheated oven for 10 minutes, or until cooked through.

Step 6

While the beef cooks, add the low sodium beef broth to the skillet with the cooked onions and gently warm them over low heat, creating a moist onion mixture for steaming the buns.

Step 7

Remove the beef sheet from the oven and carefully cut it into 6 even squares, matching the size of the slider buns.

Step 8

Place the cut cheese slices on top of each beef square and return to the oven for 2 minutes, or until the cheese begins to melt.

Step 9

While the cheese melts, add the remaining 1 tablespoon of butter to the onion mixture in the skillet and heat over low. Place the bottom halves of the buns onto the onion mixture and allow them to absorb the flavors for about 1 minute.

Step 10

Assemble the sliders by placing each cheesy beef square onto a bun bottom, then topping with the bun top. Repeat with all sliders.

Step 11

Serve immediately while warm with your favorite low sodium condiments or lettuce for added crunch.
