Ingredients

  • 300 g Korean rice cakes (tteok)
  • 150 g Fish cakes (low sodium, optional)
  • 3 cups Low-sodium vegetable stock
  • 2 tbsp Low sodium gochujang (Korean chili paste)
  • 1.5 tbsp Gochugaru (Korean chili flakes)
  • 1 tbsp Low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp Minced garlic
  • 1 tbsp Brown sugar
  • 3 stalks Green onions, chopped
  • 1 tsp Sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp Toasted sesame seeds (for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

1. If your rice cakes are refrigerated or frozen, soak them in warm water for 10-15 minutes until softened. Drain and set aside.

2. If using fish cakes, cut them into bite-sized pieces and set aside.

3. In a large skillet or shallow pan, bring the low-sodium vegetable stock to a simmer over medium heat.

4. Add the low-sodium gochujang, gochugaru, low-sodium soy sauce, minced garlic, and brown sugar to the stock. Stir well until the sauce is evenly combined.

5. Gently add the softened rice cakes and fish cakes (if using) to the pan. Stir to coat the rice cakes in the sauce.
