Ingredients

  • 1.5 pounds Ground beef (90% lean)
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic powder (no salt added)
  • 1 teaspoon Onion powder (no salt added)
  • 1 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 6 slices Low sodium cheddar cheese slices
  • 3 slices Low sodium Swiss cheese slices
  • 3 slices Low sodium provolone cheese slices
  • 3 buns Whole wheat hamburger buns (low sodium)
  • 3 pieces Lettuce leaves
  • 6 slices Sliced tomato
  • 1 tablespoon Unsalted butter
  • 3 tablespoons Low sodium ketchup (optional)
  • 3 teaspoons Low sodium mustard (optional)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat a grill or stovetop skillet over medium-high heat.

Step 2

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef with garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper. Mix gently until the seasoning is evenly distributed.

Step 3

Divide the beef mixture into 9 equal portions and shape each into thin, round patties about 4 inches in diameter.

Step 4

Cook the patties on the preheated grill or skillet for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until fully cooked (internal temperature of 160°F). Set the patties aside.

Step 5

Lightly butter the cut sides of the hamburger buns with unsalted butter. Toast them on the grill or skillet until golden brown, about 1-2 minutes.

Step 6

Assemble each burger by layering the bottom bun with one slice of low sodium cheddar cheese, a cooked beef patty, one slice of low sodium Swiss cheese, another beef patty, a slice of low sodium provolone cheese, and a third beef patty.

Step 7

Top each stack with a piece of lettuce and two slices of tomato.

Step 8

Spread optional low sodium ketchup and mustard on the top bun as desired before placing it on top of the burger stack.

Step 9

Serve immediately and enjoy your homemade low sodium triple cheeseburger.
