Ingredients

  • 500 grams Beef (lean, boneless, cut into small strips)
  • 1 large Onion (thinly sliced)
  • 4 cloves Garlic (minced)
  • 1 teaspoon Ginger (grated)
  • 1 teaspoon Ground black pepper
  • 0.5 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin powder
  • 1.5 teaspoons Coriander powder
  • 1 teaspoon Paprika (optional, for color and mild heat)
  • 1 tablespoon Fresh lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil (or any heart-healthy oil)
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh cilantro leaves (chopped, for garnish)
  • 100 milliliters Water

Directions

Step 1

1. Wash the beef strips thoroughly under cold water and pat dry with a paper towel.

Step 2

2. Preheat a large skillet or frying pan over medium heat and add the olive oil.

Step 3

3. Add the thinly sliced onions to the skillet and sauté until they turn golden brown, about 5-7 minutes.

Step 4

4. Add the minced garlic and grated ginger to the pan and cook for another 1-2 minutes until fragrant.

Step 5

5. Stir in the turmeric powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, paprika (if using), and ground black pepper. Mix well to coat the onions and aromatics with the spices.

Step 6

6. Add the beef strips to the pan and toss them with the onion-spice mixture. Cook on medium-high heat for about 5 minutes, allowing the beef to brown slightly.

Step 7

7. Reduce the heat to medium and pour in the water to deglaze the pan. Scrape the bottom of the pan gently to release any browned bits. Cover the skillet with a lid and allow the beef to cook for another 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the beef is tender and the water has mostly evaporated.

Step 8

8. Once the beef is tender, uncover the skillet, increase the heat to high, and stir-fry for another 2-3 minutes to give the beef a nice seared finish.

Step 9

9. Turn off the heat and drizzle the fresh lemon juice over the beef fry. Stir well to combine.

Step 10

10. Garnish with chopped cilantro leaves and serve hot with steamed vegetables, brown rice, or any side of your choice.
