Ingredients

  • 250 grams ground pork
  • 100 grams shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 50 grams water chestnuts, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons green onions, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 2 teaspoons low sodium soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 large egg white
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 20 pieces wonton wrappers
  • 2 tablespoons carrot, finely diced for garnish

Directions

Step 1

Chop the shrimp into small pieces and combine with ground pork in a mixing bowl.

Step 2

Add the water chestnuts, green onions, and ginger to the bowl with the pork and shrimp.

Step 3

In a small bowl, mix together low sodium soy sauce, sesame oil, egg white, and cornstarch until well combined, then add to the pork mixture.

Step 4

Mix all ingredients well until thoroughly combined to form a consistent filling.

Step 5

Take one wonton wrapper and place about a tablespoon of filling in the center.

Step 6

Gently gather the edges of the wrapper around the filling, focusing on shaping it into an open-top dumpling, and lightly squeeze to secure the filling.

Step 7

Repeat with remaining wrappers and filling.

Step 8

Prepare a steamer by bringing water to a gentle boil.

Step 9

Line the steamer basket with parchment paper or a cloth to prevent sticking.

Step 10

Place dumplings in the steamer basket, making sure they do not touch each other.

Step 11

Steam the dumplings over boiling water for 12-15 minutes, or until the pork is cooked through and the shrimp are opaque.

Step 12

Remove from steamer with care and garnish with a small amount of finely diced carrot on each dumpling before serving.
