Ingredients

  • 1 lb Pork tenderloin
  • 2 tbsp Low sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp Hoisin sauce
  • 1 tsp Sesame oil
  • 2 cloves Minced garlic
  • 1 tsp Grated ginger
  • 3 cups All-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp Instant yeast
  • 2 tbsp Sugar
  • 1 cup Milk
  • 2 tbsp Unsalted butter
  • 1 tsp Baking powder
  • 1 tbsp Sesame seeds
  • 2 tbsp Chopped green onions

Directions

Step 1

Start by marinating the pork. In a bowl, combine 2 tbsp of low sodium soy sauce, 1 tbsp of hoisin sauce, 1 tsp of sesame oil, 2 cloves of minced garlic, and 1 tsp of grated ginger.

Step 2

Place the pork tenderloin in a resealable bag or shallow dish and pour the marinade over it. Ensure the pork is fully coated, seal the bag, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or overnight for best results.

Step 3

While the pork is marinating, prepare the dough. In a mixing bowl, combine 3 cups of all-purpose flour with 2 tsp of sugar and 1 tsp of baking powder.

Step 4

Heat 1 cup of milk until warm (not hot), then add 2 tsp of instant yeast to the milk and stir to activate. Let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.

Step 5

Pour the milk and yeast mixture into the flour bowl, add 2 tbsp of melted unsalted butter, and mix until the dough begins to form.

Step 6

Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until it is smooth and elastic. Cover with a damp cloth and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Step 7

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Place the marinated pork on a baking sheet lined with foil and roast it for about 25-30 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 145°F (63°C). Let it cool before slicing thinly.

Step 8

Punch down the risen dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball and flatten into a 4-inch circle.

Step 9

Place about 2-3 thin slices of the roasted pork and a sprinkle of chopped green onions onto each dough circle. Fold the dough over the filling, pleating the edges to form a bun shape.

Step 10

Prepare a steamer by bringing water to a boil. Place each bun on a small piece of parchment paper and arrange in the steamer basket, leaving space between them.

Step 11

Steam the buns for about 15-20 minutes until they are fluffy and cooked through. Sprinkle with sesame seeds before serving.

Step 12

Serve the buns warm and enjoy your delicious low sodium roast pork steamed buns!
