Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 3 units Garlic cloves, minced
  • 28 ounces Canned unsalted, crushed tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon Dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon Dried basil
  • 0.5 teaspoon Onion powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon Freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Honey or sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh basil leaves, chopped
  • 0.25 teaspoon Red pepper flakes

Directions

Step 1

In a medium saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat.

Step 2

Add the minced garlic and sauté for 1-2 minutes, until fragrant, being careful not to brown the garlic.

Step 3

Pour in the canned unsalted, crushed tomatoes and stir to combine.

Step 4

Add the dried oregano, dried basil, onion powder, garlic powder, and freshly ground black pepper to the saucepan. Stir well.

Step 5

Add the honey or sugar and give the sauce a good stir to incorporate all ingredients.

Step 6

Bring the sauce to a gentle simmer over medium heat, then reduce the heat to low.

Step 7

Cover the saucepan partially with a lid, leaving some space for steam to escape, and simmer for about 25-30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Step 8

If the sauce splatters, reducing the heat slightly will help.

Step 9

Once the sauce has thickened to your liking, remove it from heat.

Step 10

Stir in the fresh basil leaves and red pepper flakes.

Step 11

Allow the sauce to cool slightly before using as a topping for your favorite pizza.

Step 12

Store any leftover marinara in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days or freeze for future use.
