Ingredients

  • 12 pounds Turkey, whole
  • 4 tablespoons Unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh thyme
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh rosemary
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh sage
  • 6 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 2 teaspoons Onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Paprika
  • 1 whole Lemon, sliced
  • 2 whole Carrots, peeled and chopped
  • 2 whole Celery stalks, chopped
  • 1 whole Yellow onion, quartered

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C) and ensure the oven rack is positioned in the lower third of the oven to accommodate the turkey.

Step 2

Remove the turkey from the packaging, including the neck and giblets from the cavity, if present. Rinse the turkey thoroughly under cold water and pat dry with paper towels.

Step 3

In a small bowl, mix the unsalted butter with the fresh thyme, rosemary, sage, and minced garlic until evenly combined.

Step 4

Gently loosen the skin on the breast of the turkey by sliding your fingers underneath it. Be careful not to tear the skin.

Step 5

Spread the herb butter mixture evenly underneath the skin across the breast of the turkey.

Step 6

Sprinkle the onion powder, black pepper, and paprika all over the turkey, rubbing it across the entire surface.

Step 7

Place the lemon slices, chopped carrots, celery, and quartered onion inside the cavity of the turkey.

Step 8

Tuck the turkey wings underneath the bird and tie the legs together with kitchen twine.

Step 9

Place the turkey breast-side up on a rack in a roasting pan and cover the bird loosely with aluminum foil.

Step 10

Roast the turkey in the preheated oven for approximately 3 hours, or until the internal temperature of the thickest part of the breast and thigh reaches 165°F (75°C).

Step 11

Remove the foil during the last 45 minutes of cooking to allow the skin to become golden brown and crispy.

Step 12

After removing the turkey from the oven, let it rest for at least 20 minutes before carving. This allows the juices to redistribute, ensuring a moist turkey.

Step 13

Carve the turkey and serve with your favorite low sodium sides. Enjoy your delicious low sodium oven-baked turkey!
