Ingredients

  • 2.0 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1.5 tablespoons Baking powder (sodium-free)
  • 0.5 teaspoons Ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 teaspoons Ground nutmeg
  • 0.25 cup Unsalted butter, melted
  • 0.5 cup Granulated sugar
  • 0.5 cup Unsweetened applesauce
  • 0.5 cup Maple syrup
  • 0.75 cup Low-fat milk
  • 1.0 teaspoon Pure vanilla extract
  • 1 large Egg
  • 0.5 teaspoon Maple extract
  • 1.0 cup Powdered sugar

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a donut pan or spray with non-stick cooking spray.

Step 2

In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, sodium-free baking powder, ground cinnamon, and ground nutmeg until well combined.

Step 3

In a separate medium bowl, mix together the melted unsalted butter, granulated sugar, and unsweetened applesauce until smooth.

Step 4

Add the maple syrup, low-fat milk, vanilla extract, and egg to the wet ingredients. Whisk until the mixture is thoroughly combined.

Step 5

Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring gently until just combined. Do not overmix to avoid tough donuts.

Step 6

Spoon the batter into the prepared donut pan, filling each cavity about three-quarters full.

Step 7

Bake in the preheated oven for 8-10 minutes, or until the donuts spring back when lightly pressed and a toothpick inserted comes out clean.

Step 8

Remove from the oven and allow the donuts to cool in the pan for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Step 9

While the donuts are cooling, prepare the glaze by mixing the powdered sugar, maple extract, and 2 tablespoons of low-fat milk in a small bowl until smooth.

Step 10

Once the donuts are completely cool, dip the top of each donut into the maple glaze, then place it back on the wire rack to set before serving.
