Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2.5 teaspoons baking powder
  • 0.25 cup unsalted butter
  • 0.5 cup honey
  • 0.25 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 0.75 cup whole milk
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 cups vegetable oil (for frying)
  • 0.5 cup powdered sugar (optional for dusting)

Directions

Step 1

In a large bowl, mix together the all-purpose flour and baking powder until well combined. Set aside.

Step 2

In a separate mixing bowl, cream the unsalted butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Add in the honey and mix well.

Step 3

Beat in the large eggs one at a time, ensuring each egg is fully incorporated before adding the next.

Step 4

Stir in the vanilla extract.

Step 5

Alternately add the flour mixture and the whole milk into the wet ingredients, starting and ending with the flour mixture. Mix until just combined, careful not to over-mix.

Step 6

In a large heavy-bottomed pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer for accuracy.

Step 7

Using a donut cutter, cut out the donut shapes from the dough. Gather scraps, re-roll, and cut more donuts, if necessary.

Step 8

Carefully place a few donuts into the hot oil without overcrowding. Fry each side for 1-2 minutes or until golden brown.

Step 9

Remove donuts with a slotted spoon and place them on a cooling rack lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.

Step 10

Once slightly cooled, dust lightly with powdered sugar or a mix of powdered sugar and ground cinnamon, if desired.

Step 11

Repeat the process with the remaining donuts and serve warm.
