Ingredients

  • 4 cups day-old bread (preferably whole grain or sourdough)
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 0.5 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Step 2

Cut the day-old bread into bite-sized cubes, approximately 3/4-inch square, to make about 4 cups.

Step 3

In a large mixing bowl, combine the olive oil, garlic powder, onion powder, dried oregano, dried thyme, and ground black pepper. Mix well to form a seasoned oil.

Step 4

Add the bread cubes to the mixing bowl and toss until they are well coated with the seasoned oil. Make sure each piece of bread is evenly covered.

Step 5

Spread the coated bread cubes in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, ensuring they do not overlap.

Step 6

Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the croutons are golden brown and crispy. Stir the croutons halfway through baking to ensure even crisping.

Step 7

Remove from the oven and let them cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes. The croutons will continue to crisp as they cool.

Step 8

Once cooled, garnish with freshly chopped parsley if desired, and serve immediately, or store in an airtight container for up to a week.
