Ingredients

  • 1 cup raw almonds
  • 0.5 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons nutritional yeast
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 0.25 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 2 teaspoons low sodium soy sauce
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 0.5 teaspoon paprika
  • 0.25 teaspoon black pepper

Directions

Step 1

1. Begin by soaking the raw almonds in water. Place 1 cup of almonds in a bowl and cover them with water. Let them soak for at least 4 hours or overnight. This will soften the almonds and make them easier to blend.

Step 2

2. After soaking, drain and rinse the almonds under cold water.

Step 3

3. In a high-speed blender or food processor, add the soaked and drained almonds.

Step 4

4. Pour in 0.5 cup of water and blend on high until a smooth almond paste forms. You may need to pause occasionally to scrape down the sides of the blender to ensure even blending.

Step 5

5. Add the nutritional yeast, lemon juice, apple cider vinegar, extra virgin olive oil, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, low sodium soy sauce, ground cumin, paprika, and black pepper to the blender.

Step 6

6. Continue to blend on high until the mixture is smooth and creamy, scraping down the sides as needed to incorporate everything evenly.

Step 7

7. Taste the sauce and adjust seasoning as necessary. You can add a bit more water to reach your desired consistency.

Step 8

8. Once the sauce is smooth and to your taste, transfer it to a serving dish or storage container.

Step 9

9. Enjoy as a dip, spread, or dressing with your favorite dishes. Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week.
