Ingredients

  • 1 lb Whole wheat pizza dough
  • 10 oz Lean ground beef
  • 1 tbsp Olive oil
  • 1 medium Onion, finely chopped
  • 1 cup Low sodium tomato sauce
  • 1 tsp Garlic powder
  • 1 tsp Oregano, dried
  • 1 tsp Basil, dried
  • 0.5 tsp Black pepper
  • 1 medium Red bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 cup Mozzarella cheese, shredded, low sodium
  • 0.25 cup Parmesan cheese, grated, low sodium
  • 5 leaves Fresh basil leaves, for garnish

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C).

Step 2

In a large skillet over medium heat, add olive oil and sauté the chopped onion until soft, about 3-4 minutes.

Step 3

Increase the heat to medium-high and add the lean ground beef to the skillet. Cook until browned and cooked through, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon. Drain any excess fat if necessary.

Step 4

Stir in the garlic powder, oregano, basil, and black pepper. Mix well and cook for another 2 minutes, then remove from heat.

Step 5

Roll out the whole wheat pizza dough on a floured surface to your desired thickness.

Step 6

Transfer the rolled dough onto a baking sheet or pizza stone.

Step 7

Spread the low sodium tomato sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a small border for the crust.

Step 8

Evenly distribute the cooked beef mixture over the sauce.

Step 9

Top with sliced red bell peppers.

Step 10

Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella and grated Parmesan evenly over the pizza.

Step 11

Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Step 12

Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes.

Step 13

Garnish with fresh basil leaves, slice, and serve.
