Ingredients

  • 1 piece Whole grain bagel
  • 2 slices Low-sodium ham slices
  • 1 slice Low-sodium Swiss cheese slice
  • 1 teaspoon Mustard (unsalted)
  • 0.5 cup Arugula leaves
  • 2 slices Tomato
  • 1 teaspoon Unsalted butter

Directions

Step 1

Preheat a skillet over medium heat.

Step 2

Carefully slice the whole grain bagel in half using a serrated knife.

Step 3

Spread a thin layer of unsalted butter on the cut sides of the bagel.

Step 4

Place the bagel halves butter-side down on the heated skillet and toast for about 2 minutes or until golden brown.

Step 5

Remove the toasted bagel from the skillet and spread 1 teaspoon of unsalted mustard on the bottom half.

Step 6

Layer 2 slices of low-sodium ham evenly over the mustard.

Step 7

Place a slice of low-sodium Swiss cheese over the ham.

Step 8

Add 2 slices of tomato and a small handful of arugula leaves on top of the cheese.

Step 9

Close the sandwich with the top half of the bagel.

Step 10

Return the assembled bagel to the skillet, and cover with a lid. Allow the sandwich to cook for 2-3 minutes more until the cheese has just melted (ensure not to overheat, which can cause the bagel base to over-toast).

Step 11

Remove the bagel from the skillet, slice in half if desired, and serve immediately.
