Ingredients

  • 500 grams All-purpose flour
  • 300 milliliters Warm water
  • 7 grams Active dry yeast
  • 30 milliliters Olive oil
  • 10 grams Sugar
  • 5 grams Salt substitute
  • 15 grams Sesame seeds (optional)

Directions

Step 1

In a large bowl, combine the warm water and sugar, then sprinkle the active dry yeast over the top. Let it sit for about 10 minutes until frothy.

Step 2

Add the olive oil and salt substitute to the yeast mixture and stir to combine.

Step 3

Gradually add the flour, mixing with a wooden spoon or a dough scraper until a rough dough forms.

Step 4

Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic.

Step 5

Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

Step 6

Preheat the oven to 220°C (428°F) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Step 7

Punch down the dough and turn it out onto the floured surface. Divide the dough into two equal parts.

Step 8

Roll each piece into a rough oval shape, about 1cm thick, and place them on the prepared baking sheet.

Step 9

If using, sprinkle the tops with sesame seeds and gently press them into the dough.

Step 10

Bake in the preheated oven for about 15 to 20 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.

Step 11

Remove the bread from the oven and let them cool on a wire rack before serving.
