Ingredients

  • 4 pieces Hake fillets
  • 1 cup Buttermilk
  • 2 tablespoons Lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon Paprika
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 0.5 teaspoon Dried thyme
  • 1 cup All-purpose flour
  • 0.5 cup Cornmeal
  • 1 teaspoon Baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon Ground black pepper
  • 2 cups Cooking oil
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh parsley

Directions

Step 1

Rinse the hake fillets under cold water and pat dry with paper towels.

Step 2

In a shallow dish, combine buttermilk and lemon juice. Add the hake fillets to the dish and let them marinate for at least 15 minutes.

Step 3

In a separate bowl, combine garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, black pepper, and dried thyme.

Step 4

In another shallow dish, mix together the all-purpose flour, cornmeal, baking powder, and ground black pepper.

Step 5

Remove the hake fillets from the buttermilk marinade, and allow any excess liquid to drip off.

Step 6

Sprinkle the spice mixture over both sides of the fillets, making sure to coat them evenly.

Step 7

Dredge each fillet in the flour and cornmeal mixture, pressing lightly to ensure a good coating.

Step 8

Heat the cooking oil in a deep frying pan or skillet over medium-high heat until it reaches about 350°F (175°C).

Step 9

Carefully place the coated hake fillets in the hot oil, ensuring not to overcrowd the pan.

Step 10

Fry the fillets for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until they turn golden brown and crispy.

Step 11

Remove the fillets from the oil using a slotted spoon and transfer them to a wire rack or a plate lined with paper towels to drain any excess oil.

Step 12

Garnish the fried hake fish with fresh parsley before serving.

Step 13

Serve immediately with a wedge of lemon or your favorite low-sodium dip.
