Ingredients

  • 4 cups All-purpose flour
  • 2.25 teaspoons Active dry yeast
  • 0.5 cup Granulated sugar
  • 0.5 cup Unsalted butter
  • 1 cup Whole milk
  • 1 Large egg
  • 0.25 cup Unsalted butter (melted)
  • 0.75 cup Brown sugar
  • 1.5 tablespoons Ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 2 cups Powdered sugar
  • 4 ounces Low-sodium cream cheese
  • 2 tablespoons Milk (for icing)

Directions

Step 1

In a small saucepan, warm the milk over low heat until it's about 110°F, then remove from heat. Mix in the sugar and yeast and let sit for 5-10 minutes until the mixture is foamy.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour and 3 tablespoons of sugar. Set aside.

Step 3

Add the yeast mixture to the bowl with dry ingredients, followed by the egg and the melted 0.5 cup unsalted butter. Mix until a dough forms.

Step 4

Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 6-8 minutes until it is smooth and elastic. Then form it into a ball.

Step 5

Place the dough in a large, greased bowl, cover it with a clean towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-1.5 hours, until it has doubled in size.

Step 6

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface into a rectangle approximately 14 x 9 inches.

Step 7

Brush the rolled-out dough with 0.25 cup melted butter. In a small bowl, mix the brown sugar and cinnamon, then sprinkle it evenly over the buttered dough.

Step 8

Starting from one of the long edges, tightly roll the dough into a log. Slice the log into 12 equal pieces and arrange them in a greased 9x13 inch baking dish, cut side up.

Step 9

Cover the pan with a towel and allow the rolls to rise for another 30 minutes in a warm place. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) during this time.

Step 10

Bake the rolls in the preheated oven for 25 minutes, or until they are golden brown.

Step 11

While the cinnamon rolls are baking, make the icing. Beat the cream cheese in a bowl until smooth, then add the powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and 2 tablespoons of milk. Mix until you achieve a smooth icing consistency.

Step 12

Once the cinnamon rolls are out of the oven, allow them to cool for about 10 minutes, then spread the icing over the warm rolls. Serve and enjoy!
