Ingredients

  • 2 racks Pork ribs
  • 1 cup Brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Paprika
  • 1 tablespoon Garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon Onion powder
  • 2 teaspoons Ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin
  • 1 teaspoon Chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon Liquid smoke
  • 1 cup Apple cider vinegar
  • 1 cup Honey
  • 6 ounces Tomato paste
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 1 cup Water
  • 1 cup Apple juice

Directions

Step 1

1. Preheat your oven to 275°F (135°C).

Step 2

2. In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, ground black pepper, cumin, and chili powder to create a dry rub.

Step 3

3. Remove the membrane from the back of the ribs if it's still intact. Pat the ribs dry with paper towels.

Step 4

4. Massage the dry rub all over both sides of the rib racks, ensuring they are fully covered.

Step 5

5. Wrap each rack tightly in aluminum foil, and place them on a large baking sheet. Bake in the preheated oven for 3 hours.

Step 6

6. While ribs are cooking, prepare the low sodium BBQ sauce. In a saucepan, combine apple cider vinegar, honey, tomato paste, Dijon mustard, water, and liquid smoke. Mix well and simmer over medium heat for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally until the sauce thickens.

Step 7

7. Once ribs have been in the oven for 3 hours, remove them and carefully unwrap the foil. Brush a generous amount of BBQ sauce on both sides of the ribs.

Step 8

8. Increase the oven temperature to 375°F (190°C). Return the ribs to the oven, uncovered, and bake for an additional 30 minutes, brushing with additional sauce halfway through.

Step 9

9. Remove the ribs from the oven and let them rest for a few minutes before slicing and serving.

Step 10

10. Serve with extra BBQ sauce on the side and enjoy your tender, flavorful low sodium BBQ ribs.
