Ingredients

  • 2 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1.5 teaspoons Baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon Baking soda
  • 0.5 cup Granulated sugar
  • 0.25 cup Unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup Low-fat buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 1 Egg, large
  • 0.75 cup Chocolate chips, semi-sweet
  • 0.25 cup Heavy cream

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a doughnut pan.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and baking soda until well combined.

Step 3

Add the granulated sugar to the flour mixture and stir to combine.

Step 4

In another bowl, whisk together the melted butter, buttermilk, vanilla extract, and egg until smooth.

Step 5

Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Be careful not to overmix to ensure soft doughnuts.

Step 6

Transfer the batter into a piping bag or a resealable plastic bag with a corner snipped off.

Step 7

Pipe the batter evenly into the prepared doughnut pan, filling each cavity about 3/4 full.

Step 8

Bake in the preheated oven for 8-10 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the doughnuts comes out clean.

Step 9

Remove the doughnuts from the oven and allow them to cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Step 10

For the chocolate glaze, heat the heavy cream in a small saucepan over medium heat until it begins to simmer.

Step 11

Remove from heat and add the chocolate chips. Let sit for 1-2 minutes, then stir until the chocolate is completely melted and the mixture is smooth.

Step 12

Dip the top half of each cooled doughnut into the chocolate glaze and place back on the wire rack. Allow the glaze to set for a few minutes before serving.
