Ingredients

  • 4 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon Instant yeast
  • 3 tablespoons Sugar
  • 1.5 cups Warm water
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 1 pound Ground pork
  • 2 tablespoons Low-sodium soy sauce
  • 3 cloves Garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tablespoon Ginger, minced
  • 4 stalks Green onions, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon Sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon Chinese five-spice powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon White pepper
  • 1 tablespoon Cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons Water

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, instant yeast, and sugar.

Step 2

Gradually add the warm water to the dry ingredients, mixing as you pour.

Step 3

Add the olive oil and knead the mixture on a lightly floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

Step 4

Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Step 5

Meanwhile, prepare the filling. In another bowl, combine the ground pork, low-sodium soy sauce, minced garlic, minced ginger, chopped green onions, sesame oil, Chinese five-spice powder, and white pepper.

Step 6

Mix the cornstarch with the 2 tablespoons of water and add it to the pork mixture.

Step 7

Mix all components until well combined.

Step 8

Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball and flatten it into a circle about 4 inches in diameter.

Step 9

Place about 2 tablespoons of pork filling in the center of each dough circle.

Step 10

Gather the edges of the dough up and around the filling, pinching together at the top to seal the bun.

Step 11

Line a bamboo steamer with parchment paper or cabbage leaves to prevent sticking.

Step 12

Place the buns in the steamer, spaced apart to allow for expansion.

Step 13

Cover and steam over boiling water for approximately 15 minutes until the buns are fluffy and cooked through.

Step 14

Serve the steamed buns warm, and enjoy!
