Ingredients

  • 3.5 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon Active dry yeast
  • 1 tablespoon Sugar
  • 4 tablespoons Unsalted butter
  • 1.5 cups Low sodium cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup Skim milk
  • 0.5 cup Warm water
  • 1 large Egg
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon Baking powder

Directions

Step 1

In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast and sugar in warm water. Let it stand for about 10 minutes, or until it becomes frothy.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and baking powder.

Step 3

Melt the butter and let it cool slightly.

Step 4

In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg, melted butter, and milk.

Step 5

Add the yeast mixture to the egg and milk mixture, and stir to combine.

Step 6

Pour the wet ingredients into the flour mixture, and mix until a dough forms.

Step 7

Stir in the garlic powder, Italian seasoning, and shredded low sodium cheddar cheese until well incorporated.

Step 8

Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5-7 minutes, or until it becomes smooth and elastic.

Step 9

Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and allow it to rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until the dough has doubled in size.

Step 10

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Step 11

Punch the dough down and divide it into 12 equal parts. Shape each piece into a ball and place it on the prepared baking sheet.

Step 12

Cover the buns with a clean kitchen towel and let them rise for another 20-30 minutes.

Step 13

Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until the buns are golden brown and sound hollow when tapped on the bottom.

Step 14

Remove from the oven and let them cool on a wire rack before serving.
