Ingredients

  • 1 cup Yogurt
  • 2 cups Cold Water
  • 0.25 cup Cucumber
  • 1 teaspoon Ginger
  • 0.5 Green Chili
  • 10 leaves Fresh Mint Leaves
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh Coriander Leaves
  • 0.5 teaspoon Cumin Seeds
  • 0.25 teaspoon Asafoetida (Hing)
  • 0.25 teaspoon Black Pepper Powder
  • 1 tablespoon Lemon Juice
  • 4 Ice Cubes

Directions

Step 1

In a blender, combine the yogurt and cold water. Blend until smooth to create a buttermilk base.

Step 2

Peel and finely grate the cucumber. Add the grated cucumber to the buttermilk.

Step 3

Peel and finely grate the ginger. Slice the half green chili thinly. Chop mint and coriander leaves finely.

Step 4

In a small pan over low heat, dry roast the cumin seeds until fragrant, about 1-2 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool. Once cooled, ground them coarsely using a mortar and pestle.

Step 5

Add the grated ginger, green chili, mint leaves, coriander leaves, ground cumin seeds, asafoetida, and black pepper to the buttermilk.

Step 6

Mix everything well and add the lemon juice. Stir thoroughly to ensure all spices are well-distributed.

Step 7

Place ice cubes into serving glasses and pour the spiced buttermilk over the ice.

Step 8

Garnish with extra mint leaves or a slice of lemon if desired. Serve immediately for best flavor.
