Ingredients

  • 500 grams Lean ground beef
  • 1 cup Unsalted breadcrumbs
  • 1 large Egg
  • 0.5 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon Onion powder
  • 0.25 teaspoon Freshly ground black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 250 grams Fresh mushrooms
  • 2 cups Unsalted beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons Cold water
  • 1 teaspoon Fresh thyme leaves

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine the lean ground beef, unsalted breadcrumbs, egg, garlic powder, onion powder, and freshly ground black pepper. Mix until all ingredients are well incorporated.

Step 2

Divide the meat mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each portion into a patty about 1/2 inch thick.

Step 3

Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the patties and cook for 4-5 minutes on each side or until browned and cooked through. Remove the patties from the skillet and set aside.

Step 4

In the same skillet, add the remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Add the sliced mushrooms and sauté for about 5-6 minutes, until they become tender and slightly browned.

Step 5

Pour in the unsalted beef broth, deglazing the pan by scraping up any browned bits from the bottom.

Step 6

In a small bowl, whisk together cornstarch and cold water to create a slurry. Slowly pour the slurry into the mushroom mixture, stirring continuously, until the gravy thickens, about 2-3 minutes.

Step 7

Add the fresh thyme leaves to the gravy and stir well.

Step 8

Return the burger patties to the skillet, spooning the mushroom gravy over them. Allow them to heat through for about 2 minutes.

Step 9

Serve the burger steak with mushroom gravy hot, garnishing with additional thyme if desired.
