Ingredients

  • 500 grams Lean ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon Olive oil
  • 1 medium, finely chopped Onion
  • 3 cloves, minced Garlic
  • 1 tablespoon, grated Ginger
  • 1 teaspoon Ground coriander
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon Garam masala
  • 0.5 teaspoon Ground black pepper
  • 100 grams Frozen peas
  • 1 medium, boiled and diced Potato
  • 0.5 cup Low sodium vegetable broth
  • 0.5 cup, chopped Fresh cilantro
  • 10 sheets Phyllo pastry sheets
  • 50 grams Melted unsalted butter

Directions

Step 1

Heat olive oil in a large pan over medium heat.

Step 2

Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes.

Step 3

Stir in garlic and ginger, and cook for an additional 2 minutes.

Step 4

Add the ground beef to the pan and cook until browned, breaking it up with a wooden spoon, about 7-8 minutes.

Step 5

Mix in ground coriander, cumin, garam masala, and black pepper. Cook for 2 minutes until fragrant.

Step 6

Add the peas, boiled and diced potato, and low sodium vegetable broth to the beef mixture.

Step 7

Stir well, reduce the heat, and simmer until the liquid has evaporated and the mixture is well combined, about 5 minutes.

Step 8

Remove the pan from heat, and stir in chopped cilantro. Allow the beef mixture to cool slightly.

Step 9

Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Step 10

Cut each phyllo pastry sheet into strips, about 3 inches wide.

Step 11

Brush one strip lightly with melted butter, and place another strip on top. Spoon a tablespoon of the beef filling at one end.

Step 12

Fold one corner of the phyllo strip over the filling to form a triangle. Continue folding this way to the end of the strip.

Step 13

Place the folded samosa on the prepared baking sheet. Repeat the process with the remaining strips and filling.

Step 14

Brush the tops of the samosas lightly with melted butter.

Step 15

Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, until golden brown and crispy.

Step 16

Serve warm with your choice of low sodium chutney or yogurt dip.
